Rachel’s Fall Favorites

Fall is, by far, my favorite season! I love the more polished looks that colder weather calls for, but being that I have to juggle two (precious) kiddos, a busy work schedule, and a few fun evening engagements, I don't like to make keeping up with the trends too complicated. Here's how I'll update my mostly all black wardrobe with wearable, statement-making accessories and some of the latest beauty must-haves.

To celebrate the opening of Sephora's newest location in NYC's bustling Meatpacking district, Make Up For Ever created this super chic limited edition Highline Palette (, in Sephora Meatpacking store only) that has all the eye shadow shades I'm loving for fall: shiny neutrals like bronze, copper, diamond plus one sparkly plum hue for when I'm feeling extra festive.

When I saw my friend with these adorable Helen Ficalora Alphabet Charms, (0 each in 24K gold, in sterling silver, shopbop.com), I had to have the A and the L for my daughters, Amelia and Lucy. It's perfect for the sentimental mom who wants to look effortlessly chic.

I discovered Not Your Daughter's Jeans after I had my second baby and realized that all my low-rise jeans weren't doing me any favors. But, now this brand is my best friend thanks to their tummy flattening waist and comfortable stretch fabric. Bright colored denim makes wearing jeans feel new this season, and this Alisha Skinny Jean in Electric Blue (4, nydj.com) is not only trendy, but really flattering.

I'm not a huge foundation fan, but the older I get, the more help I need, especially in the fall when I like to wear more polished makeup looks. The new Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus All-Smooth Makeup SPF 15 (.50, clinqiue.com) gives my skin a great moisture boost to plump up fine lines and creates a truly natural looking finish. I love that it also has a dose of their Repairwear Laser Focus Serum to help my skin look smoother in the long term.

Plush rosy lips will be my go-to lip look this fall. The dusty pink color is feminine and warm for autumn's more sophisticated feel, but not overpowering. The new L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss in Really Rose (.95, at drugstores) is perfect because it imparts a great depth of color and is extremely moisturizing (argan oil, omega 3 and vitamin E) so it'll not only look on trend, but also help prevent my lips from getting chapped once the indoor heat starts to crank up.

This fall, I've made a commitment to branch out from the black manicure. These two rich jewel toned shades, Dark Amethyst (a dark eggplant color), and Midnight Sapphire (a deep cobalt blue), from Creative Nail Design, ( each, cnd.com), are great new options for a classic dark nail look. I also love these formulas because they don't contain toluene, formaldehyde and DBP. My kids are so sensitive to the way polish smells (that can't be good!), but they never complain when I wear CND.

Check out the new brush head on this classic mascara. It's called a "great little grabber" brush because it easily lets you reach all of your lashes so you can thoroughly coat each one from root to tip. Long, dramatic lashes were all over the fall runways, and the new Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes (.49, drugstores) will be the perfect way to get the effect. Swipe the outer corners a few extra times for maximum effect.

A colorful scarf is hands-down the fastest way to jazz up a simple outfit, like dark blue jeans and a t-shirt or black pants with a black top. The bright colors in this Marc By Marc Jacobs "Wonderland" Printed Scarf (8, bloomingdales.com) will liven up any outfit, while the dark brown background keeps it fall appropriate.

I love fragrance, but have very sensitive skin that reacts to traditional eau de toilettes. That's why I'm now addicted to these alcohol-free Lavanila Healthy Fragrances, which comes in Vanilla Coconut, Pure Vanilla (my fave), and Vanilla Grapefruit ( each, sephora.com). The blend of pure essential oils with hydrating sweet almond oil creates a soft, wearable and long-lasting scent. I also think its natural enough for my daughter to wear, who I always find snooping through my beauty loot!

I live in ballet flats because I'm always running late from one obligation to the next and need to be able to walk at a fast clip (even a light jog, if necessary!) Animal prints are one of this season's most fun trends, and these leopard-printed Steve Madden "Koool-P" Ballet Flats (, bloomingdales.com) are affordable and comfortable thanks to a flex heel. I'll probably wear them every day!

You still have to create an account for each app you want to use, unfortunately Mitty says its working on a solution to integrate universal login system, although it is a pretty big problem to solve. But thats a minor caveat in my opinion: Not having to download a new set of apps every time you visit a new city could be a huge asset to the traveller who cant spare storage space
